Spark Tester for Protective Lining Inspection
A spark tester detects pinholes and discontinuities in electrically insulating linings on conductive tanks, vessels and other metallic surfaces. It helps identify defects that expose the underlying metal so they can be located and repaired.
How does a spark tester work?
The instrument’s earth connection is attached to the conductive surface, and a high-voltage electrode is passed over the lining. An electrical discharge through a discontinuity triggers a fault indication, helping the operator locate the defect.
The appropriate test voltage depends on the lining material, thickness and applicable inspection requirements. Refer to the ST-400 specifications and catalogue for its output range, power supply and accessories.
