Pinhole Detector for Thin Protective Coatings
The PD-900 Pinhole Detector uses the low-voltage wet-sponge method to detect pinholes and discontinuities in thin, electrically insulating coatings on conductive metallic surfaces. Applications include suitable epoxy, enamel, oil-paint and powder coatings.
How does a pinhole detector work?
The instrument’s earth connection is attached to the metallic surface, and a moistened sponge electrode is moved over the coating. When moisture reaches the underlying metal through a discontinuity, it completes an electrical circuit and triggers a fault indication.
The PD-900 provides selectable test voltages of 9 V, 67.5 V and 90 V DC and weighs approximately 750 grams. Select the test setting according to the coating specification and applicable inspection procedure. Refer to the catalogue for full specifications and supplied accessories.
